LEVEL DESIGNER & LEVEL ARTIST
Star Wars Inspired level
About
A story-filled star wars level made with iconic Star Wars symbols. I tried to stay true to the original lore and keep the style similar to star wars, and only creating assets that look like things from the movies.
The first vista that introduces you to the new location, as this mission is supposed to be a part of a longer overarching story. This is supposed to be one of many levels.
The Story:
This was supposed to be one mission of many on a long story based game. This mission is the third one in the game.
You are a stormtrooper that wants to change sides to the rebels' alliance after a mission goes horribly wrong. The main character finds himself questing the morals of the empire after a mass execution. You have contacted the rebels and plan to meet with them after sneaking away from the empire.
You decided to meet with the rebels on Kamino and you make your way there. The mission begins with you landing on a platform on this cloning facility on Kamino.
The Start:
You exit your stolen tie fighter and are greeted by this rewarding vista.
You climb your way closer to the coordinates you have agreed to meet upon. You make your way past fallen stormtroopers and clone troopers.
Midway through the climb on the almost completely fallen platform you hear a message from the rebels via radio.
As a rebel Alderaan cruiser arrives to pick you up,
The ship's captain requests a meeting with you.
Here you can see a Whitebox sequence I made to show how the cut scene approximately could look.
The captain tells you to go into the facility and turn on the power so that they can see if there is any landing platforms still intact.
You enter the facility and are greeted by a crashed starfighter, giving the player more understanding of the environmental story forming around them.
On the way to turning on the power, the player is greeted by some of the wildlife on the planet.
You turn on the power and this opens a door revealing more of the hangar.
After turning on the power the captain tells you to shoot a flare so that the ship can locate you. You proceed to exit the building through the once-locked doors.
You get to the point and fire the flare to let the rebels see you.
However, through the radio you can hear panic in the crew's voices. Suddenly, an Imperial ship comes from behind the rebels.
The rebels only had time to deploy a few fighters in the skirmish. You hear an imperial pilot multiple exchanges between the rebel and imperial pilots as you watch the air battle unfold.
The fight goes on and a Y-wing rebel pilot talks to you and says that they still have time to pick you up, you just have to get to the closest landing platform.
On the way back one of the tie fighters tries to disrupt your path by bombing you.
The platform you fight for. After killing most of the stormtroopers the rebel Y-wing bombs the ships of the platform and picks you up, ending the mission.
You light speed out of there with only 3 ships surviving the encounter. For the rest of the story, the main character has to prove himself to the rebels so you go on many fun action-filled missions.
The Art of the Project:
Showing the art of the project, keep in mind that the models are not in a complete state and are all made by me in a short time.
The Environment:
Kamino is known for its rain, in all media of Star Wars, Kamino has been portrayed as extremely rainy and dark. To break up the feeling and also make it more abandoned and uncanny I decided to make it sunny and calm instead of rainy and storm.
The Moss:
Kamino has also never shown that any plants grow on the planet. In order to make the map feel more abandoned and stand out I needed something to break the Kamino look. I decided to add a moss-like plant to make the area more visually interesting.
The Backstory:
The only known Kamino location in the show gets destroyed a few years before this story takes place. In order to create my own story, I made an entirely new area that allows me to be creative with my story and visuals.
In the original story, after Order 66 was enacted, the original city of Kamino was carpet-bombed by the empire.
In my story extension, the second city was alerted to the Empire's attack and used the Clones to defend themselves. This is portrayed by the numerous crashed Clone army and Imperial ships, as well bodies from both factions.
Work Process:
Overview:
The red represents where you get a great view of the landscape. The green arrows are player paths and the small red lines are the doors that are locked before you turn on the power.
Models:
I made over 50 assets for this project. All assets used other than the water material was made by me. Here is a showcase of the ships. I tried to remain as lore-friendly as possible.

In this project I wanted to display storytelling through the environmental art. I think I successfully captured the feel of the Star Wars universe and accomplished many strong and fluid environmental storytelling moments.
